Bio

Resident Production Stage Manager, Certified Excel TECC Teacher (In process)

Cody Swanson is a freelance theatre artist.  In May of 2015, Cody graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a BFA in Acting and a minor in Musical Theatre.  Also at the university, he studied stage combat.  He became an Advanced Actor Combatant with The Society of American Fight Directors, certified in eight weapons. 

At school, some of his favorite roles include Gangster #1 in KISS ME, KATE, and Clown #1 in THE 39 STEPS.  He is a very proud alumni of The Academy of Performing Arts, and is now very proud to teach there, along side those who he once called his teachers. 

Cody has acted as production manager for Mamai Theatre Company for the past three seasons.  Other theatrical endeavors include running sound board and light board at Beachwood Community, assistant stage managing an Equity Members Project production of HEARTBREAK HOUSE, running spotlight and projections at The Fairmount Performing Arts Conservatory, and house managing for the 2009 - 2010 and 2010 - 2011 seasons at The Academy of Performing Arts. 

In addition, Cody has been acting in many venues around the Cleveland area for many years.  Favorite roles include Jem in TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD at Lakeland Community College, Carl in BUS STOP and Peter Van Daan in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK at Big Dog Theatre, and as the original Ralphie Parker in A CHRISTMAS STORY at The Cleveland Play House, back in 2005.  Also, Cody has sung with the Cleveland Orchestra, in their children’s and youth chorus. 

In addition to his management duties keeping the Academy's gears oiled and turning, Cody teaches Dialects, Acting for Tech Students,and  Improvisation.
