    ACADEMY MISSION

To provide talented high school juniors and seniors with a joyful, challenging and inspiring training experience in the performing arts; one that builds confidence, courage and mastery in creative self expression and prepares students for high-level college and professional opportunities.

    GOALS

    • To provide a comprehensive, pre-professional course of study in the area of performing arts that is accredited by a college or university

    • To create performance opportunities for students to demonstrate acquired skills in the new Performing Arts Center and drama wing.

    • To provide professional, visionary leadership by a prominent performing arts educator and professional with strong ties to the regional theatre, university system and other professional performing arts venue

    • Employ professional artists / teachers and outstanding faculty

    • Prepare students for post secondary education in the performing arts and related subjects; assisting with audition, contact, interview support and professional guidance in selecting educational and career opportunities.

    WHO WILL BENEFIT?
The Academy is for every student who wishes to develop their creative skills and expressivity - not only young actors.  While many of our students will be trained and will indeed go on to be actors or directors or playwrights or singers, many others will go on to a wide range of professions and extended study, carrying with them the special and empowering knowledge of self that comes from the challenge of training in the theatre.

The courage to create, the confidence to stand calmly before others in stressful situations, the facility to be expressive, the sense of play that makes one young at heart, the wisdom to see the big picture, the rare and essential skill to communicate clearly, the sensitivity to find meaning in relationships and the business of life - these are all real-world benefits of the training at the Academy.

Students learn how to relax, to concentrate, to strengthen their voices and bodies, to be expressive physically and emotionally, to improvise, to develop empathy for others, to become literate and aware of the world and aware of themselves.  These are important lessons for living, not just acting or creating on the stage.

This training challenges our young people to know themselves as creative and imaginative individuals.  The discoveries and proceedures essential to creativity on the stage, are equally vital to all human beings in their daily lives.  Our programming seeks to enrich and nurture, providing self-confidence and understanding.  At the Academy, we believe creativity in itself is an end. Because with it, the student develops an expansiveness of self and a thriving confidence that can affect and change the world.

    THE ACADEMY
The Chagrin Falls Performing Arts Academy is a college preparatory program for high-school juniors and seniors. The Academy is an accredited, half-day, high-school performing arts program, which takes place during the school year, during school hours. Students from the schools which are part of the Excel-TECC Consortium are eligible to attend. Classes commence at the beginning of the school year, in fall 2008.

This year, two groups of approximately 16 students will be chosen by audition. Each group will study a wide range of performing arts courses for a half day (morning or afternoon) at the Chagrin Falls High School Drama wing (home of the new Chagrin Falls Performing Arts Center).

In addition to challenging and fun classes, there will be opportunities for performance in fully mounted productions and student plays, along with special workshops led by guest artists from the professional theatre.
